Pet oxygen mask donation for San Diego Fire-Rescue - KFMB News 8
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department received a donation Thursday that will help save the lives of animals caught in fires.
The Emma Zen Foundation gave the department 60 pet oxygen masks to carry on the fire apparatus. The masks are specially designed for dogs, cats, birds and other household-size pets. Without them, firefighters have to use human masks, which don't work as well.
"The rubber seal on the front of them is actually closing the jowls of the animal, allowing the oxygen to get directly into the nostrils," Jo Chiapuzio explained.
The 60 masks cost $4,500. The money came from a fundraiser at a pet-friendly hotel in Utah.
